The BlackBerry 9860/50 – Moving beyond the older SurePress touchscreen click feature

After the images and videos of BlackBerry 9860/50, comes the actual set from Research In Motion. Expected to be launched in June or July this year, it is the latest OS 7 based device, its developer tools have been leaked. It displays an interesting warning on opening: “The device uses a touch sensitive screen for input. It is capable of differentiating between the touch of a finger and a “click” producing tactile feedback. … In this simulator use the left mouse button to click the screen and use the right mouse button to touch.”

You might find it strange if you are habituated with the older BlackBerry sets as the older versions employed the SurePress mechanism that required clicking the touchscreen. As both BlackBerry Torch 9800 and BlackBerry Bold 9900 were more traditional with standard capacitive touchscreen, it is unlikely that the BlackBerry 9860/50 would come with the SurePress feature again.

The device has been code named Monaco (for GSM model) or Monza (for CDMA model). The device is anticipated to encase a 3.7 inch display. It is also expected to be coming with a 5 mega pixel camera with LED flash and video recording capabilities. Other features might include, Wi-Fi b/g/n with mobile hotspot, GPS, NFC for contactless payments and a magnetic compass. It would be nice to have a feel of OS 7. This one from BlackBerry has included Podcasts into the Social Feeds app as well as a new Favourites tab that might handle all types of feeds.
